Caprica ist eine Fernsehserie von Remi Aubuchon, Ronald D. Moore und David Eick, die für Syfy produziert wurde. Sie ist ein Ableger der neu-interpretierten "Battlestar Galactica" Serie. Die Serie ist ein Prequel, mit Fokus auf die Familien Adama und Graystone auf dem Planeten Caprica und die Erfindung der Zylonen . Der Pilotfilm spielt 58 Jahre vor den Ereignissen der "Miniserie" und wurde am 21. April 2009 direkt auf DVD veröffentlicht. Die Serie wurde am 27. Oktober 2010 nach nur einer Staffel wieder abgesetzt. Die verbliebenen unaufgeführten Episoden wurden zuerst auf dem kanadischen Space Sender ausgestrahlt und danach erst, ab dem 4. Jänner 2011, auf Syfy[2].

Handlung

Caprica spielt 58 Jahre vor den Ereignissen der Battlestar Galactica Miniserie und dem Fall der Zwölf Kolonien. Konzipiert als "erste Science-Fiction-Seifenoper für das Fernsehen"[3], dreht sich die Serie um zwei Familien - die Graystones und die Adamas -, die in der korrupten und dekadenten capricanischen Metropole Caprica City leben. Während die Schaffung der Zylonen und der Fall der kolonialen Gesellschaft der Hintergrund für Caprica ist, lehnte Ronald D. Moore die Serie an die berühmte TV Serie Dallas an und David Eick nahm sich den Film American Beauty zum Vorbild. Die Serie zentriert sich mehr auf die Charaktere, als auf Science-Fiction Elemente[4].

Der Pilotfilm stellt uns Daniel Graystone als den brillianten Erfinder der frühen Zylonen vor, der in Trauer über den Verlust seiner Tochter im Teenageralter, Zoe Graystone, ist, die bei einem Terroranschlag ihr Leben verlor. Verzweifelt wegen Zoes Tod, ersucht er die Hilfe von Joseph Adama, einem Anwalt von Tauron mit Verbindung zu einer kriminellen Organisation, um eine Technologie zu stehlen, mit der sie ihre beiden verstorbenen Töchter wieder auferstehen lassen könnten. Obwohl es den Anschein hat, dass das Experiment scheitert, wird Zoe in Graystones Zylonenprototypen wiedergeboren.

Im weiteren Verlauf der Serie wird die Geschichte der Graystones und der Adamas vertieft und es dreht sich um terroristische Organisationen - die Soldaten des Einen - verantwortlich für Zoes Tod und die Mafia von Tauron - die Ha'la'tha - und die Ermittler, die beide Instanzen verfolgt.

Obwohl die Serie während ihrer ersten Staffel abgesetzt wurde, wurden einige Verbindungen zwischen Caprica und Battlestar Galactica etabliertet
