Quellenangabe

Unter dem Punkt Quellenangabe wird der Battlestar Wiki:News/Flottennachrichtendienst angezeigt. Ist das so gedacht? --Melkor23 01:13, 7. Sep 2006 (CDT)

Fan-Seite / Rollenspiel

--Ylar 22:42, 2. Feb. 2008 (CET)
  • After translating this page into english, I have to agree with CC-Mel. The website does not deserve a friends link BW:NOT because it's not totally BSG related because you support other genre. I hope this is the end of discussion. Shane 08:57, 3. Feb. 2008 (CET)
Feb. 2008 (CET)
  • Ok, I accept that opinion, but other wikis for a special genre (like Jedipedia for Star Wars, Androwiki for Andromeda, Memory Alpha and Trekpedia for Star Trek) do not have this POV and work together with us. If you want to disclaim the support and the linking in large search engines, this is your right, but it will not make your project more sucessful. Kind regards. --Ylar 21:54, 3. Feb. 2008 (CET)
    • Hello Ylar. I'm Joe Beaudoin, project leader for Battlestar Wiki. How are you? Anyway, I've been tracking this conversation and endorse the decisions of Shane, CC-Mel, and Enabran. However, I feel the need to clarify some points. To be honest, we rarely endorse other websites that have a wide-ranging genre focus: this goes for the English BW and across the board. That is, we seek out sites that have a specific BSG focus, like Caprica-City.de -- its very members having been pivotal (if not the driving force!) in developing our German-language Battlestar Wiki. Secondly, we are not looking to be involved with site ranking systems or webrings, simply because they're more a hassle and do not generate proper return on investment capital. I can attest to this from my personal experience, having been a webmaster of various websites for the last decade.

However, I do have a proposal for you, should you wish to consider it. If you can get people from your site to help develop the German Battlestar Wiki, we would be more than delighted to give you "friend" status. If this interests you, then please feel free to contact me via e-mail at: joe@frakmedia.net. :) Cheers! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 23:33, 3. Feb. 2008 (CET)
    • Hello Joe Beaudoin, i am fine, thank you. You are quite clever. ;) In your proposal only one side would really do something and carry all the risk for getting a single link as profit while the other side has the double profit (link and users) with doing nothing and carrying no risk at all. It is surprising you think this is 'friend'. --Ylar 20:46, 5. Feb. 2008 (CET)
OMFrakkin'G! 'Dobule profit'? Sheesh, in my opinion so far you've nothing but cost us: time and nerves. You know, if - last year, when you first asked - you'd just created an article about BSG roleplaying and linked your website, chances were no one would have said anything. But all the work you put into the topic is sulking around and making idle comments 'cause BSGWiki policies aren't to your liking. I'm out of this discussion and my position hasn't changed since November. Greetings, Mel - stating her opinion on the matter this time, not an official BSGWiki on.
Mel, don't sweat it. I completely agree with your position on this, and fully understand your frustration. Now, Ylar, let me be completely honest here: we gain nothing by linking to you. You, on the other hand, stand to gain more than us in asking for a link.
The reason I say this is because I've checked your site statistics via the top third-party sites... you're not listed in Alexa and you are not even listed on Quantcast. Not only that, your Google page rank is non-existent (i.e. "0") and, when searching for your RPG on Google, I only pull up 487 hits. A majority of them duplicates from the same group of sources.
As Mel and the others have rightfully contended, you're trying to profit from our web presence. That wouldn't be a problem if you were a pure BSG website, or host to an official cast or crew site. If that were the case, we'd gladly link you!
As you well know, and have been told repeatedly, you fall under neither category.
Unless something major happens, our decision is final. We will not link to you. We are not a repository for web links. We are a repository of information on Battlestar Galactica. Beyond that... there are other services that can help promote your RPG out there. Just Google them. :)
Thank you for your interest in our website. Regards, -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 21:51, 5. Feb. 2008 (CET)
  • Even so you said above "we are not looking to be involved with site ranking systems" you now seem to be interested in this. At last I just correct something with comparing stats, too: For http://www.rs-atlantis.de the pagerank is 3 (not 0) and you get 213 entries without duplicates. For http://de.battlestarwiki.org you get pagerank of 2 and 140 without duplicates. I can tell you ranking sites like Alexa and Quantcast where BSGwiki is not registered in and has no customized tags for, too. So this gives no argument. I also checked your recent 1000 changes, you seem to have only 2 german active users in this wiki: CC-Mel and Enabran. As we do not seem to get a deal here, I kindly accept your opinion and wish you 'live long and prosper'. --Ylar 00:36, 6. Feb. 2008 (CET)
Three points of clarification:
  1. I could personally care less if we're involved with site ranking systems or pyramid schemes. So we're not looking to help other site's pageranks, which was my point before. If the contributors to the Wiki find your site worth linking to, then they'll do so. However, the decision's been made to not link to your site, since it doesn't suit us to do so.
  2. Second, we do not benefit from linking to you at all. The only way we'd benefit is if some of your people, as an organized effort, came to help us in our mission. (At present, the entire battlestarwiki domain gets a PageRank of 4. The German wiki gets a PR of 2, but I'm looking at the entire domain here. Also, I admit to error when I say that your page rank came up as zero. It was an error from the toolbar I was using and I can verify that rs-atlantis's pagerank is 3 for the entire domain.) However, you want a free lunch... when no such thing exists.
  3. Other than that, where the facts are concerned, you are in extreme error. Each page of the Wiki -- English, German, Media Repository or otherwise -- has a small tag that reports statistical data to Quantcasts servers. So we are directly measured through them. In Alexa, we are above the top 50,000 sites. (Anything in the top 100,000 is considered top-notch by the way.)
Now, as for your comments about active contributors... the show is on hiatus right now. When Season 4 picks up, we get a lot more people actively contributing again. Would we like more people to contribute? Absolutely! However, linking to your site does not mean anything to us, and will likely not bring new contributors to us at all.
At the end of the day, your insistence only betrays your want to improve your own rankings by leeching from us without giving us anything in return... which is dishonest. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 01:42, 6. Feb. 2008 (CET)

Info Box on every page

It really shows that I haven't been around for a while... *coughs* Anyway, I wanted to translate the "Regarding "Razor" Information:"-Box but for the love of it I can't find the site where I can edit it. Aktualität

Hi,
