Amanda Graystone ist eine erfolgreiche plastische Chirurgin auf Caprica, verheiratet mit dem Computeringeneur Daniel Graystone, der die Zylonen erfindet. Sie ist die Mutter von Zoe Graystone.
Frühes Leben
Amanda Graystone lebt auf Caprica lebt, geboren wurde sie aber auf einer anderen Kolonie (Know Thy Enemy).
Amanda erlebte in ihrer frühen Kindheit eine Tragödie, als ihr Bruder Darius bei einem Autounfall ums Leben kam. Sie überlebete den Autounfall, doch fortan litt sie an häufigen Halluzinationen, in denen ihr Bruder erschien und sie ihn durch Gänge, über Straßen oder Brücken nachzulaufen versuchte. Der resultierende Nervenzusammenbruch und Selbstmordversuch führte zu einem Aufenthalt im Delphi Convalescent Institut, wo sie bis zu ihrer Erholung zweieinhalb Jahre verbrachte ("The Imperfections of Memory", "End of Line").
Als sie den jungen Daniel Graystone trifft, beschreibt sie sich selbst als "verrückt". Daniel erweist sich für sie als Quelle emotionaler Stabilität. Während ihrer Ehe, wird Amanda unerwartet mit ihrer einzige Tochter, Zoe, schwanger. Die Schwangerschaft kommt zu einem ungünstigen Zeitpunkt, da Amanda gerade auf den Aufbau ihrer medizinischen Praxis ausgerichtet ist. Obwohl sie ihre Tochter liebt, glaubt Amanda, dass ihre unglückliche Schwangerschaft und postpartale Depression, ihrer Beziehung zu Zoe beeinträchtigte und zu ihren häufigen Konflikten mit ihr beitrug ("End of Line", "False Labor").
Nach der Geburt von Zoe, kämpfen sich die Graystones durch wirtschaftlich schwierigen Zeiten in denen ein verheerendes Feuer sogar ihr erstes Haus zerstört. Dennoch gelangen die Graystones zu Erfolg - Daniel gelingt dies zuerst mit MicroCap und wird später CEO von Graystone Industries und Amanda wird eine erfolgreiche plastische Chirurgin ("Ghosts in the Machine", "There is Another Sky").
Nach dem Umzug in ihr neues Anwesen, das in einer wunderschönen Küstengegend an einem rauschenden Meer liegt, genießt Amanda Tennisspiele mit ihrem Mann, obwohl ihre Beziehung zu ihrer Tochter Zoe weiter schwierig, sogar feindlich ist ("Caprica", "Retribution").
Verlust der Tochter
58 Jahre vor dem Fall der Zwölf Kolonien, erleidet Amanda einen enormen Verlust, als Zoe bei einem Bombenanschlag ums Leben kommt, den Zoes Freund Ben Stark ausübte. Erschüttert von dem Ereignis, verliert Amanda viel von ihrer Bindung zu Daniel und versinkt in tiefer Trauer. Als sie auch noch entdeckt, dass Zoe selbst eine Rolle in dem Anschlag spielte, versucht sie Antworten von Zoes bester Freundin Lacy Rand zu bekommen. Die kann ihr aber nur sagen, dass Zoe auf Geminon ein neues Leben starten wollte ("Caprica", "The Reins of a Waterfall").
Bei einem Gespräch mit Jordan Duram, während der Untersuchung in der Attentatsangelegenheit, beharrt sie darauf, dass Zoe weder radikale politische Neigungen noch einen Freund hatte. Bei der Trauerfeier für die Hinterbliebenen des Anschlags im Apollo Park, nähert sich Natalie Stark, Ben Starks Mutter, Amanda und bestätigt die Beziehung ihrer beiden Kinder. Danach gibt sie Amanda persönliche Gegenstände und Schmuck, die Zoe gehörten. Die Entdeckung, dass ihr Schmuck in der Form des Symbols der monotheistischen Terrorgruppe STO modelliert ist macht Amanda wütend. Von Trauer befallen, geht sie auf das Podium und erklärt dem verblüfften Publikum, dass Zoe eine Terroristin und für den Anschlag verantwortlich war (Rebirth).
Die diese Offenbarung gefilmt und und in den Nachrichten gebracht wird, verbreitet sich die Nachricht schnell über alle Zwölf Welten. Amanda tritt entweder zurück, oder wird entlassen, während eine wütende Meute sie auf Schritt und Tritt verfolgt. Trotz der Auswirkungen und dem Konflikt, der zwischen ihr und Daniel entsteht, gesteht Amanda, dass sie es wieder tun würde; sie glaubt fest daran, dass Zoe für den Anschlag verantwortlich war. In diesen offenbarenden Momenten findet Amanda die Möglichkeit, Daniel wieder näher zu kommen (The Reins of a Waterfall).
Als Ergebnis von Amandas Ausbruch bei der Gedenkfeier, werden die Graystones zu verhassten Personen. Als Reaktion auf die Kontroverse, wird Daniel gezwungen, einen Auftritt bei Backtalk mit Baxter Sarno zu machen, um das Ansehen seiner Familie und das Image des Unternehmens zu reparieren. Hinter den Kulissen stehend, beobachtet sie, wie sich ihren Mann zu verteidigen versucht. Dann geht Amanda doch auf die Bühne und schließt sich der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Gastgeber der Show, Baxter Sarno an. Gemeinsam versuchen sie Zoe als normales, wenn auch schwieriges, junges Mädchen darzustellen. Auf ihrem Weg aus dem Fernsehstudio, näherte sich ihr Sam Adama, der behauptet, Sarnos Fahrer sein und bietet ihr an, sie nach Hause zu bringen. In seinem Auto beginnt Adama - ein Vollstrecker in des Ha'la'tha-Verbrechersyndikats - Amanda einzuschüchtern und um ihr Leben zu fürchten, da Adamas Schwägerin und Nichte bei dem Anschlag starben. Amanda kommt zwar ungeschoren davon, ist sich aber gar nicht bewusst, wie nahe sie dem Tode gekommen ist (Gravedancing).
Umgang mit dem Verlust
Im weiteren Verlauf der Untersuchungen des Bombenanschlags, bekommen die GDD Agenten einen Durchsuchungsbefehl, für den Wohnsitz der Graystones. Trotz Amandas Einspruch, entfernen die Defense Department Ermittler die meisten von Zoes Habseligkeiten bis auf ein paar Möbelstücke (Gravedancing).
- In einer geschnittenen Szene von "Know Thy Enemy", zerlegt Amanda die restlichen Möbel und erwägt, Zoes ehemaliges Zimmer in ein Fotostudio umzuwandeln. Später, in der ausgestrahlten Episode, kann Fotoausrüstung im Raum gesehen werden kann, aber erst in "The Imperfections of Memory" wird Amandas Interesse an der Fotografie erwähnt.
- In einer weiteren geschnittenen Szene aus der gleichen Episode wird gezeigt, wie Amanda darum bittet, Zoes Avatar zu sehen, den Daniel in "Gravedancing" erwähnte. Bestürzt bittet Amanda Daniel, aber er widersteht und sagt ihr, dass der Avatar nicht die realite Zoe ist.
Unter Ausnutzung von Amandas Trauer, bekommt Schwester Clarice Willow der Athena Akademie - im Geheimen eine STO-Zellen-Führerin auf der Suche nach Zoe Graystones Avatar - Zugang zu Graystones Haus, mit der Ausrede, Bücher von Zoe zurückzugeben. Mit nur ein paar Stücken von Kinderzeichnungen in Daniels Labor, ist Amanda froh darüber, etwas von Zoes Leben zu bekommen und begrüßt Willow. Bei einem Glas scorpianischen Ambrosia werden die beiden Frauen schnell Freundinnen und Amanda vertraut Willow (Know Thy Enemy).
Während siw sich auf einer Straße befindet, wird Amanda Zeugen bei einem leichten Autounfall. Sie eilt den Verletzten zur Hilfe, doch als sich eine Menschenmenge versammelt, ist sie schockiert, ihren toten Bruder Darius unter den Zuschauern zu sehen. Sie verfolgt ihre Vision weiter bis zu einem Parkhaus, wo sie ein Plakat von der Brücke findet, auf der Darius getötet wurde. Bestürzt über die Vision, sucht Amanda Schwester Clarice Rat auf (The Imperfections of Memory).
Mit Daniels Rückzug in die Unternehmenspolitik, wird Amanda zunehmend allein gelassen. Noch von den Visionen von Darius heimgesucht begleitet sie Willow in eine Opiumhöhle, wo Amanda Clarice ihre dunkle Vergangenheit verrät. Während sie rauchen, erzählt Amanda Willow, dass sie Vertrauen in die Götter von Kobol hat und erinnert sich an Pythias berühmten Worte: "All das geschah bereits. All das wird wieder geschehen." Amanda beginnt stark zu trinken, mischt Alkohol mit ihren verschreibungspflichtigen Medikamenten und fällt in eine tiefe Depression ("Ghosts in the Machine", "End of Line").
Tomas Vergis konfrontiert sie mit der Industriespionage, die Daniel verübte und den Tod von zwei Männern verursachte. Vor ihrerem Eros-Tag Abendessen, fordert Amanda ihren Mann auf, zu den Vorwürfen von Vergis Stellung zu beziehen. Da sie erfährt, dass es wahr ist, und ihr Mann vielleicht an dem Mord mitschuldig ist, verlässt sie Daniel. Bei ihrem Spaziergang zu der Pantheon Brücke erfährt sie eine weitere Vision von Darius und ihrem früheren Selbstmordversuch. Sie klettert auf einem Felsvorsprung und springt von der Brücke (End of Line).
Unbesiegt
Den Sprung in die Bucht von Caprica überlebend, wird Amanda in ein nahes Spital gebracht. Dort lehnt sie es ab, von ihrem Mann besucht zu werden, lässt aber Besuche von Schwester Clarice zu. Gemeinsam ziehen die beiden Frauen gemeinsam in eine Hütte außerhalb von Caprica City, wo sich Amanda von ihren Verletzungen erholt. Trotz der relativen Ruhe in der Hütte, wird sie immer noch von dem Verlust ihrer Tochter gequält und hat Träume, die Zoe in Verbindung zum U-87 Roboter zeigt ("Unvanquished", "Retribution").
Später geht sie mit einem Krückstock zu einem Treffen mit GDD Ermittler Jordan Duram, der vermutet, dass Schwester Clarice ein Mitglied der Terrororganisation STO ist und wahrscheinlich für die Gehirnwäsche und den Tod von Zoe verantwortlich ist. Anfangs skeptisch, beginnt Amanda später, die Verbindungen zu sehen und erklärt sich bereit Duram zu helfen, schleicht sich zurück in ihr Haus und nimmt sich eine Pistole aus ihrem Schrank ([[[Retribution]]).
Mit dem Taxi fährt Amanda zurück zu ihrer Hütte. Sie hält ihre Waffe aus dem Sichtfeld, als sie Clarice befragt, wird aber von Willows Antworten besänftigt. Da sie in der Hütte keine Beweise für Willows Beteiligung an der STO finden kann, bittet Amanda darum, mit Schwester Willow und ihrer Familie zu leben. Obwohl sich Willow zunächst weigert, stimmt sie später doch zu und bringt Amanda mit zu ihr nach Hause - unter Einwand eines ihrer Ehefrauen, Mar-Beth. Während sich Mar-Beth und Amanda zuerst nicht vertragen, legen sie letztlich ihre Differenzen bei und Amanda hilft sogar bei der Geburt von Mar-Beths Kind ("Things We Lock Away", "False Labor").
